You've heard of shark week, but have you heard of Chihuahua Week?

 At CPR we are celebrating chihuahua week by featuring one of our pocket-sized puppies every day. Today, I am honored to introduce you to Puppy #870 our Chi-Weenie Mix Boy.

He's a little boy with a huge heart that just wants to love you all the time.HeI loves to play with his toys and other dogs but he really just wants to snuggle up with you. Will you please adopt him so he can give you puppy kisses and snuggles?

Our boy is about 12 weeks old and about 8 lbs. He can fit in a shoe box, in your lap, in a purse, in your shirt....

Puppy #870 is happy sleeping in his bed (or yours.) 

He likes to chew (he's teething) but pretty much only on his toys. He does love to play with his toys.

               

        He likes to chew on sticks too.

He loves roll around in the grass and hang out in the sunshine. He's also working on perfecting his stink eye.

Friday Fix (3/8/2013) - Body Language

Puppy pictures are my passion. I love working with all of the photos that we get of our cute little furry friends.

One of the challenges is when I come across a puppy picture that I think is adorable, but may not be seen the same way by others. For example I did a blog on smiles. I love when we capture a dog smiling, but if someone wasn't there and didn't see the dog wag it's tail at the same time as it splits into a big old grin, the photo might be misunderstood.

There are also people who may not be familiar with the puppy bow position. To me it says play with me!!! But someone else might not see it the same way. What do you see?

We also have some photographers that love to take action shots - which are great, but sometimes it catches the wild side and boy is it hard to have one that is in focus.

Finally there are some that I just can't help but post.

Saturday Fix (7/28/2012) - Merle

The book that I am currently reading "Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog" by Ted Kerasote really got me thinking. The book shows the great interaction between man and dog. 


From Amazon: "While on a camping trip, Ted Kerasote met a dog—a Labrador mix—who was living on his own in the wild. They became attached to each other, and Kerasote decided to name the dog Merle and bring him home. There, he realized that Merle’s native intelligence would be diminished by living exclusively in the human world. He put a dog door in his house so Merle could live both outside and in.


A deeply touching portrait of a remarkable dog and his relationship with the author, Merle’s Door explores the issues that all animals and their human companions face as their lives intertwine, bringing to bear the latest research into animal consciousness and behavior as well as insights into the origins and evolution of the human-dog partnership. Merle showed Kerasote how dogs might live if they were allowed to make more of their own decisions, and Kerasote suggests how these lessons can be applied universally."

If you want to understand your dogs perspective on things and figure out how he/she learns in our world, get this book. It is amazing at how Ted reads his dog's reactions to the world and to his person. The next time you scold or praise your dog, after reading this book, I have become more sensitive to what my body language is saying. Dogs gather so much information just from our body language, so don't be surprised when the dog misinterprets what you are saying. Your body language may just be expressing the bad day at work, and the dog is not sure how the mood applies to him/her. The great thing about Ted is that he tries a training method, and when it doesn't work, he tries to think of why it doesn't work and what else he can try.

Puppies are great at expressing their moods with body language. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Friday Fix - Puppy Firsts (3/30/2012)

I have to say that Spring is my favorite time of year. It is all about starting new and fresh. You can keep the windows open all day and night and not be too cold or too hot. It is just perfect.

Spring is a great time to get a puppy. You can sit outside and watch the puppies all day and night without getting too hot or too cold or having too many bugs!!

Puppies are like spring, they discover things for the first time and it is so much fun to watch their reactions.

At Colorado Puppy Rescue, one of the most important jobs is for us to take a photo that captures the puppies personality and makes a great first impression. Some puppies are born to be photographed.

When you adopt a puppy you get to treat them to their first true car ride, front or back seat, windows up or down. They make great co-pilots.

Spring is the best time for the puppies to get their first roll in the grass. Some of our puppies have never even seen grass and it is fun to watch them explore.



Smell the flowers for the first time. In my house it would be the first and last time, because my dogs seem to prefer digging over smelling the flowers.

After they are done rolling and playing and having fun, your puppies may be ready for a bath. Many puppies don't mind the bath and it can be a real bonding experience.

Then the puppies can curl up in the first bed that they can call their very own!!!!!!

There are so many other first experiences as a new puppy owner that I hope you all can enjoy.

Friday Fix - Puppies and Toys (3/23/2012)

I am so happy for the opportunity to be a guest blogger. The best thing is that I have access to a ton of great photos, we have extremely talented photographers with this rescue!!

This week, the weather was so nice all I wanted to do was play, and today is Puppy day, so I thought I would combine the two and show some puppies playing with their toys.

I think that these pictures speak for themselves.

The puppies idea of a toy is not always conventional.

Sometimes the puppies need to be coached into playing, but usually it doesn't take much.

Love it when a pup loves a toy so much they can't do ANYTHING without the toy.

With all of the talk of Manning - gotta have a football somewhere in the blog.
